Nails inspired by my baby boy ✓ August To-Do List

August T0-Do List

Task: Paint my nails in the color of my baby boys play mat (fun childlike colors for him to look at, just because)

A fun lovable “to-do” inspired by my baby boys play mat, pictured to the left with the chosen nail polishes.

Using a teal (Making Waves) by Sonia Kashuk, an icy blue (name unknown) by Collection 2000, an elephant grey (Groovy Grey) by GOSH, a coral (Tart Deco) by essie, and a deep orange (Bright Orange) by Max Factor I went to work while my baby slept.

The next morning his little face perked up at the sight of my nails and the color painted on however his playfulness could also have been the result of his good nights sleep, milk intake, or being my Little Buddha baby – frankly his happy gurgles could have absolutely nothing to do with me! But it’s nice to think I might have had something to do with it 🙂

Tip Your Waitress

August To-Do List

I am getting my August to-do list ticked off and this is one to-do list that is not causing stress, in fact it is making me feel light on my feet and has me more than excited!

Task: Paint my nails a neon hue

The only hard thing about this “to-do” was finding the neon shade I wanted! I decided to test out a brand I had never tried before so went to my local CVS and spotted Spoiled by Wet n Wild, exclusive to the store.

There were several neon hues and I settled on SO11 called Tip Your Waitress, a bright pink that part reminds me of my childhood Barbie and partly of a hot summer vacation!

Tip Your Waitress

  • One of the best neon hues I have ever worn and I have tested out a few including neon yellows, oranges and greens.
  • Fantastic for both finger nails and toe nails.
  • BARGAIN PRICE, $1.99!!
  • I am actually still in shock over the $1.99 price tag, never have I found such good quality nail polish for such an amazing bargain price! This is definitely one brand I will be buying more of!

SPOILED by Wet n Wild

Exclusive to CVS stores across America, 72 shades are currently available. All colors are toluene, phthalate and form-aldehyde free. Follow @wetnwildbeauty or follow CVS Stores @CVS_Extra

Which will you wear this month?

Sugar & Honey: smooth & polish skin in minutes, face & body!

29 Dec

Sugar & Honey

The holidays as well as being a fun time can also be stressful especially on your skin. The harsh winter weather makes our skin dry out and stress often cause skin to break out in rashes or cause red blotches/uneven skin tone.

With two simple ingredients you can rid your skin of the above problems as well as smooth out your skin and polish it at the same time within minutes!

It is best to use this mask when you have a day/night in as you skin may be left slightly red due to the dead skin cells being removed.

This easy to make homemade face mask needs two ingredients:

  • Brown Sugar, 1/4 cup – containing oils which take care of the dryness the brown sugar grains also removes dead skin cells leaving the skin smoother.
  • Honey, 1 tablespoon – not only does the honey combine the sugar and allow it to stick to your skin but it makes for a great moisturizer and polisher.

  1. Mix the brown sugar and honey until well combined in a small bowl.
  2. Apply the mixture to your face, keeping away from your hairline. Some of the mixture may fall off if you move around too much/fast so make sure you sit and relax while you have this on!
  3. Leave on for 10 minutes and then with a wash cloth gently scrub the mask off, using circular motions, with warm water.

Your skin will be left smooth and shiny – all ready for the New Year ahead!

I like to use either Ponds Cold Cream or Bio-Oil on my face after washing this particular mask off as it calms down the redness as well as leaving my skin replenished.

What's next?

  • Oh and one of the best things about this homemade mask is that any leftovers can be used as a bath scrub so your body can also be left smooth and polished! Just use a wash cloth/glove to gently scrub the honey sugar combination into your skin and then wash off with warm water.

2 ingredient mask, tighten & smooth out skin

30 Nov
Tighten & Smooth Out Skin

Tighten & Smooth Out Skin

This easy to make face mask will

tighten your skin whilst giving it a brighter & more smoothed out look

You will need:

  • 1/3 cup of gram flour (besan flour)
  • 7 teaspoons of plain yogurt

How to prepare and apply:

  1. Mix together the gram flour and yogurt in a small bowl. Once combined the mixture should be smooth and thick in appearance.
  2. Apply to your face, staying away from hairline and eye area, as shown in the photos here.
  3. Leave on for approx 20 – 25 minutes, your skin will start to feel tight and some of the mask will dry out.
  4. With warm water massage your skin whilst washing the mask off.
  5. Your skin will instantly feel tighter, smoother and appear brighter – apply your favorite face cream/oil once you have dried your face.

Kissable for the season ahead!

One of the great things about this natural homemade mask is you can apply cosmetics straight away as the skin is left smooth and tight like an art canvas!

Any leftovers can be kept in the fridge, if the mixture gets hard for the next application add a teaspoon of water/yogurt and mix well.

Easy preparation in one simple step gives you fabulous skin for the holiday season ahead… We all need alone time to recharge.

What are your favorite face masks for the winter season?

Sweet Chili Soup Recipe Made EASY

20 Oct

Sweet Chili Soup, similar to Garden Fresh

One of our families favorite soups is served at the Garden Fresh restaurants in the Bay Area, California.

Currently Garden Fresh, serving Chinese Vegan Cuisine, has two restaurant locations:

  • Palo Alto, 460 Ramona Street, (650) 462-9298
  • Mountain View, 1245 West El Camino, (650) 254-1688

A few nights ago my husband and I were craving some of their warming soup however as we were to tired to go out I decided to attempt making it myself at home.

I would like to point out I do not know the Garden Fresh ‘Hot and Sour’ soup recipe and my version tastes slightly more sweet over sour as it must have different ingredients.

However I did pretty good and I don’t just say that myself, even though I do like to toot my own horn on occasion, my husband was very impressed and he does not impress easily! 🙂

This recipe has simple steps, is easy to make and may just end up being your go-to soup when you need warming up quickly this season.

Serves: 1 large or 2 small Chinese soup bowls

  • 1/2 lb extra firm tofu, squeezed and drained of excess water. 1/4 lb tofu thinly sliced into bite sized pieces and 1/4 lb cut into small cubes.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of corn starch
  • 8 oz vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar, I used Pure Cane Organic Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon of chili garlic sauce
  • 4 oz plus 3 teaspoons of water

  1. In a small bowl mix together the cornstarch with the 3 tablespoons of water.
  2. Stir in the vegetable broth and mix until cornstarch has been blended in.
  3. Heat the cornstarch/broth mixture in a saucepan over a medium heat and get it to boiling point. Stir occasionally to prevent the mixture sticking to the saucepan.
  4. Add all the tofu, apple cider vinegar, sugar, lemon juice, soy sauce, and chili garlic sauce. Cook over a medium heat. Stir occasionally letting the soup get to a boiling point and then simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the 4 oz of room temperature water, stir and let it reach boiling point – this should take 3 minutes.

Serve and taste a soup full of flavor!

If you do get the chance to eat at one of the Garden Fresh restaurant locations, and you must try as the food is delicious and the service always friendly, as well as the Hot and Sour soup I recommend the following two dishes:

  • General’s Veggie Chicken; crispy-fried soy chicken, sautéed with bell peppers and carrots in a spicy sweet and sour sauce.
  • Scallion Pancakes with Carrot Sticks; small fried pancakes topped with a mouth watering sauce. I actually wanted to lick the plate, the sauce was SO good.

My mouth is watering just thinking of the food at Garden Fresh!
